A few months back, my mother turned 82. To celebrate her birthday, we published a book of her short stories “Twists & Turns” by Revathi Seshadri on Amazon Kindle
My mother has been writing short stories for 30 years now, ever since she retired early from the Reserve Bank of India. She has two other collections published and over 200 ‘middles’ in Times of India. Her stories appear in the ‘Chicken Soup…’ collections.
I’ve written about the life lessons she taught us in an earlier post.
But, this post is for a different reason. I’ve been thinking about what publishing this latest book says about her personality, more so on International Women’s Day today. Here are six things I can see.
Self awareness – understanding and accepting what makes her happy and fulfilled
Drive – to go after her dream, in her fifties!
Discipline – to learn to write well, and keep polishing her craft of writing for over 30 years – a second career in an area that she had no background in
Perseverance – to build the network to get published, especially, in ToI – a second career in an area that she had no background in
Courage – to keep putting her innermost self in the public eye – for what are stories, but her thoughts and feelings – in text?
Gratitude – for every reader who buys her book and life that allows her to do what she enjoys doing
I’m wondering – can I say the same thing about myself? About my circle of friends?
They say every woman becomes her mother. I hope I do!
If you’d like to know more about the book, I’ve added a link in this blog.
